Bridges while you wait

Need a bridge in a hurry? Call Saunders Civilbuild.

Dungog Shire Council faced a dilemma when an old single lane bridge on the busy Dungog-Clarencetown road failed.

Traffic was required to make a 26km detour but Civilbuild had a new bridge designed, built and open to traffic in three weeks.

That however, is nothing compared to what became known as the Boggabri Miracle, a three span heavy duty concrete bridge over the Kamilaroi Highway.

That bridge, designed by Parsons Brinckeroff in partnership with Civilbuild engineer Stephen Wood, was built in 10 weeks with the tight schedule required to coincide with the opening of a new open cut coal mine developed by Idemitsu Boggabri Coal Pty Ltd.

The project was even more challenging because the bridge had to carry over loaded B doubles hauling coal on a private road to a nearby rail head.

Then there was the rain delay while driving and pouring piles.

Nearly all the bridge – pile caps, abutments, head stocks, bridge planks and kerbs – were pre-cast at Civilbuilds yard at Redhead and delivered to the site without a hitch, allowing the job to be finished on time.

Another example of Saunders Civilbuild’s one stop bridge shop – from design through to the finished product.
